Dinosaur Food and Recipe Ideas

No party is complete without some food and a dinosaur party is no exception. Whether you are feeding “herbivores or carnivores”, a little imagination can go a long way. Also it is now possible to buy dinosaur them'ed products such as nuggets or cheese.  Make labels giving all your food dinosaur style names and just have fun – the more fun you have making the party food the more fun the kids will have eating it.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

Dinosaur Dip. (Guacamole with chips)
serves 7 children

  • 2 ripe avocados, peeled and pitted
  • Optional - 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 1/4 tsp. kosher salt
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice
  • 1 red jalapeno pepper, chopped finely or a red pepper.
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise

Preparation:

In a food processor or blender, combine all ingredients. Pulse several times until you reach the desired consistency. It can be as smooth as you like. Cover and chill in refrigerator at least 30 minutes. Serve with tortilla chips.

Ice Age icicles

  • Colored pop red, green brown etc.
  • 2 packets children jell-o candy or Gummy shapes.
  • mould or plastic cups
  • craft sticks.

Preparation:

Find some ice pop moulds and some green or red soda pop to them. Insert into the moulds a dinosaur candy, add a stick and freeze. If you don't have a mould use a plastic cup instead.

  • 2 - 3 jell-o packets  - use different colors.
  • 2 packets children jell-o candy or Gummy shapes.
  • 1 clear bowl
  • multi color ice cream

Preparation:

Allow a day to make this: Mix your first packet of jell-o and pour into the bowl add some candy animal shapes and let set at an angle. When set enough add the next jell-o color and more candy shapes. Do the same for the last jell-o color. Allow to set and then serve to the dinosaur birthday party palaeontologists with a mixed color ice cream.

Quick and easy, open the packet and cook per instructions.

Dinosaur Bones

Use a bag of pretzels for these.

Dinosaur Sandwiches.

Make up some sandwiches and use a dinosaur cutter to shape the sandwiches.

Dinosaur Nest

Hard Boil some eggs, and make a nest shape using lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and sliced peppers. Place the eggs in the middle.

HINT: Cook the eggs then crack the shells but do not peel them. Place them in some water with a dark food color for half an hour. When you peel them you will have a mottled effect on the eggs.

T-Rex Burger - makes 10 medium sized burgers

  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4  cup ( 50 mL) water
  • 1/2 (125 mL) dry bread crumbs
  • 2  small onion, grated
  • 1 1/4 tbsp (18 mL) Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) salt
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp (2 mL) pepper
  • 2 lb (907 g) lean ground beef
  • 10  hamburger buns

Preparation:

In bowl, beat egg and water with fork; mix in bread crumbs, onion, mustard, salt, Worcestershire and pepper. Mix in beef. Shape into a dinosaur  (1 cm) thick patties. (Make-ahead: Cover and refrigerate for up to 6 hours. Or layer between waxed paper in airtight container and freeze for up to 1 month; thaw in refrigerator.)
Place patties on greased grill over medium-high heat; close lid and cook, turning patties once, for about 10 minutes or until no longer pink inside. Place in hamburger buns.
You could name the tomato sauce "lava" the pickle relish "swamp goo" and the mustard, well you get the idea.
